A:Yes, I am an actual native Californian! I was born in Pasadena and currently live in Southern California near the coast and I love it here.
Q:Must thing to do when in California?
A:There are so many options when it comes to visiting sunny California! Some of the top things to do: If you are in the northern part, a must-do is a weekend trip to San Francisco for some sightseeing, dinner and shopping. Another favorite must-do weekend trip is spectacular Santa Barbara. You could then make your way north into Hollywood’s Historic Walk of Fame and also check out the Mann Chinese Theatre. If you like art, I suggest visiting the Getty Museum. If you have children, a fun day at Disneyland is the ticket! If you’re looking for a little downtime, head over to beautiful Laguna Beach and finally head to the San Diego area for horse racing at Del Mar, and for a night of fun, a must is a night at the Gas Lamp District for a nice meal and dancing.
Q:When did you begin your health and fitness journey?
A:I have always been interested in movement as a way of health and fitness. It began with dance, a passion of mine, and years later I discovered Pilates. I was instantly hooked. The method has not only changed my body and the way I exercise, it has also forever changed my life.
Q:What is the hardest aspect when it comes to training clients?
A:The hardest aspect in training my clients is if I am not taking time for myself in the studio. Teaching can be quite demanding on our bodies as well as the energy required to be an effective and compassionate instructor. In addition, working long hours and seeing clients back-to-back can add additional strain. The reward for me is that all my clients and students are dedicated to the method and realize the many benefits it has to offer. This simply makes my job pretty easy!
Q:Give us some diet and workout routine tips.
A:I do my best to schedule weekly workouts with a variety of trainers and commit to them. I believe that consistency is so important when it comes to well being. I will also schedule some time for myself in my studio to create more of my Rhythm Pilates workouts.
My typical week consists of Pilates, Rhythm Pilates™, GYROTONIC®, yoga, barre and functional strength training. Diversity in training keeps me from a plateau. As for diet tips, I think that everybody’s body is different and what works for one person may not work for another. What works best for me is to listen to what my body needs. I have a simple diet and try to eat organic and raw live foods. What I enjoy most are vegetables, salads and protein. I eat fruits sparingly, love my green smoothies and consume very little meat. Basically I eat what my body craves and whenever I need to refuel. I love food and have an unusually large appetite and rarely say no to dessert. There is no deprivation here!
Q:What is Rhythm Pilates™?
A:I am so glad that you asked this question! Rhythm Pilates™, is an evolutionary approach to the traditional mat work, highlighting the Pilates principles rhythm and flow. I have infused elements of dance and yoga to create movement-art workout sequences that are choreographed to music. Because of it’s popularity I now offer a continuing education program to movement professionals. We launched our first course in 2012, which is an Accredited Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) Certificate Course for 10-CEC’s.
Q:What is your next career move?
A:This is a great question. I feel that I have accomplished so much in the last 13-years and I am very grateful for what Pilates has given me. However, it has been on my to-do list for quite some time to produce ‘Rhythm Pilates DVD series’. My ultimate plan is to continue to teach as a faculty member for BASI Pilates® Comprehensive Teacher Training Courses, offer my Rhythm Pilates Training Courses around the globe and continue to do what I love…share the gift of Pilates with the world.
