Q:Best place to eat in Chi Town?
A:Oh gosh, that seems impossible to answer! I guess it all depends what you like. A really awesome place I like is Kuma’s Corner. They have huge burgers that are just so satisfying! For my sweet tooth, I love Glazed and Infused. Best doughnuts around, especially the maple bacon long john!
Q:How did you get involved in health and fitness?
A:I have always been very athletic. In high school I played volleyball, track and basketball. When I graduated however, I really wanted to focus on school so I put my love for sports aside. My boyfriend is really into fitness, and he has transformed himself entirely which really inspired me. I fell in love with lifting and clean eats. He showed me that people make this a hobby with competing and what not. I decided that’s what I was going to do! Although I was never considered heavy, I am tall so I always felt self conscious because my friends were tiny. I was ready to get rid of being so self-conscious. With the support from my boyfriend I went along and started taking health and fitness very seriously. Here I am! And happier than ever.
Q:Why did you choose the NPC?
A:I chose the NPC because I felt like it was a community where I would find many people aspiring for the same things I was. I wanted to hear people’s stories, see their progress, but more importantly see them LIVING. These people balance their health, fitness, family and friends so well. It is such a positive thing to be a part of and witness.
Q:Describe your pre contest diet and training…
A:Many people think that dieting and prepping can be exhausting, but I think otherwise. One thing I do is measure all the amounts of food, protein, fats, and carb intake according to my macros. I love chicken and lean beef, so I have those quite often. I can’t forget peanut butter! I make sure I fit peanut butter into my diet as well. I train 6 days a week, 5 of those days I lift and I do cardio for 30 minutes 6 days a week. I always lift heavy as long as I can keep things within a 12 rep range. An example would be… shoulder press. I usually do 5 sets of 12-15 reps.
Q:You're a nurse?
A:I am in the process of taking nursing courses to be a nurse. I am so excited! I really want to specialize in Obstetrics. I love babies, so working with them all day would be a dream job to me. Many people tell me they could never work with babies because there are the good moments and.. not so good moments, but someone has to take the lead and be able to handle the good and bad that comes with a job.
Q:What's next for you?
A:I have been so focused on my career path for so long I am just patiently waiting to get started. I will keep continuing to work, workout and focus on school until it is all said and done (which may be never!). One thing I do know is that I wouldn’t be where I am today without the positive people who support me. I never surround myself with negative people OR negative thoughts. I truly believe that if you remain positive through the good and bad, you will overcome any obstacle or failure and accomplish your dreams. Keep working hard!
Q:Can you give us all of your social media handles?
A:I do have facebook and am a big instagram user.
