A:Far from it actually! I was born in the wonderful city of Chicago and raised in the suburbs there until mid high school when my family moved to Minnesota. When I graduated high school, I decided I'd had enough cold winters and was ready for some sun! I moved to Arizona that summer to attend my undergrad alma mater, Arizona State University and have made my home here ever since.
Q:Your favorite muscle to train is....?
A:I absolutely LOVE training shoulders. When I first started weight training, I read an article in Oxygen Magazine that talked about how sexy shoulders are something you can show off year round and I couldn't agree more! Especially living in Arizona where it's always warm, I love being able to wear cute dresses/tank tops and even fitted long sleeve shirts that show off how hard I work in the gym.
Q:What does your pre contest diet look like?
A:My coach, Damian Segovia, is really good at customizing my pre contest meal plan. It is always a little different depending on how my body is responding but I typically have 5 meals throughout the day consisting of different lean proteins, complex carbs and healthy fats. I am in love with yams so my coach always makes sure that my meal plan has those.
I think finding foods that you love when prepping is so important. As long as you can have foods that you would eat normally, it doesn't feel like a diet and truly makes the experience so much more enjoyable- like it should be! :)
Q:Describe being on an NPC stage...
A:The best way I can describe being on an NPC stage is to say that it is an amazing adrenaline rush! I played almost every sport growing up- soccer, softball, volleyball, basketball, track, dance, gymnastics and cheerleading but for me, nothing compares to the excitement and energy of being on that stage and having the opportunity to showcase what I've worked so hard for. There is so much that goes into the preparation for a show. And I don't mean just diet, weights and cardio. Every competitor that gets up there has made sacrifices, experienced physical/mental strain, and battled the everyday pressures that life presents us with. That being said, besides the adrenaline rush, I love the feeling of accomplishment! Just knowing that whatever life has brought my way during that prep, I was able to stay strong, true to my goals and conquer it! It motivates me to know that no matter what card life has dealt me, I have overcome it... and that everyone surrounding me has done the same.
Q:Favorite cheat meal?
A:Ooo.... Good question! :) My absolute favorite food is Mexican so I will take anything that includes beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, etc. I am a creature of habit though so if I get on a kick for something I will typically stick with that for awhile until something new peaks my interest. Recently, I have been obsessed with egg white quesadillas and sweet potato fries!
Q:Tell us about Quest Bar...
A:Quest Nutrition has done an amazing job of creating protein bars with a perfect nutritional profile that tastes like a treat! All of their protein bars have 20-21 grams of protein, they're gluten free with very high fiber, no added sugar and no junk ingredients. They even have a 100% all natural line that uses no artificial sweeteners as well. My favorite thing to do is warm them up in the microwave for 15 seconds and it takes like a soft dessert- soo good! But make sure to take them out of the wrapper first... I've had a few customers tell me they didn't do that so I just have to make sure to mention that important little token. ;) You can check out all 13 flavors, as well as their DELICIOUS Peanut Butter Cups at www.questproteinbar.com.
Q:How did you link up with X2X Clothing?
A:Yes! X2X Clothing is another company I am very proud to represent. The owner actually moved to Phoenix last year and contacted me through Facebook to see if I would be interested in doing some modeling for their new X2X women's line that would be launching soon. I was very excited to shoot alongside IFBB Figure Pro, Candice Lewis, for their ladies line which includes everything from ribbed tanks to burnout shirts/tanks and even a hoodie for warm access to and from the gym. :) This February, I was invited to become a part of their athlete program and couldn't be more honored to be recognized with such an elite team. You can go to my link at http://shop.x2xclothing.com/?Click=609 to check out all the new styles from X2X- especially the burnout tees and tanks, my favorites!
Q:Bears going to the playoffs this year?
A:Without a doubt! We should have been there last year but the Packers LET the Vikings beat them in the last regular season game which gave the Vikings a better divisional record and brought them to the playoffs instead of the Bears.... Those Packers- always out to get us! ;) Just kidding... But yes! This year there won't be room for that type of error. I'm anxious to see what the draft will bring but we've picked up some promising players already and I'm excited to see what Trestman will contribute as the new head coach. 2013 is definitely our year-- Go Bears!
Q:You believe in Cutler?
A:Haha... I wouldn't be a true Bears fan if I didn't believe in our quarterback, so yes. That's all I will say... :)
Q:Can you give us all of your social media handles?
A:I'd love to!
