A:I am originally from Chicago, IL- but I am a military brat! Spent time on the east coast, Japan, and grew up mostly in San Diego, CA.
Q:Finish this sentence. "First time you were in the gym..."?
A:… for lifting was when I started freshman summer training in high school for the basketball team. My parents instilled healthy living at an early age though, and I was in the gym for karate lessons since I was 3!
Q:Detail your journey to the NPC...
A:I ran track in college and inhaled every magazine available about lifting, muscles, and healthy living. I had dreamed of competing one day, (then, there was only figure, fitness, and bodybuilding I believe), but thought that I wasn’t good enough or wouldn’t even know where to begin. I basically put that thought away and concentrated on work. After a bad knee surgery, I completely stopped working out for over 4 years!! It wasn’t until I met my husband’s co-worker and bodybuilder, Chris Meadows, last year who encouraged me to get started! He led me to a trainer, Brett Buckles of Camp Hero Fitness, who prepared me for three successful shows last year, (after starting in June 2012)! Now, my eyes are turned toward that coveted IFBB pro card :)
Q:Give us your typical workout for the week...
A:It can vary depending on what I might need to focus on and how sore I may be from a previous workout. Mondays are now shoulders, Tuesdays legs and glutes, Wednesday back, Thursday glutes, Friday bis and tris, and Saturdays are legs again. I normally do 30-40 min of abs/cardio 3-5 times a week.
Q:Compare your off season and pre contest diet...
A:Off season essentially I just have more healthy carbs, more protein, and more calories in general as I’m trying to build my lower half and add muscle. Pre contest diet is a lot less carbs and more consistency in weighing my food. I also stay away from any sugar or sugar substitute and have less cheat meals.
Q:What music gets you pumped at the gym?
A:Mostly hip/hop, R&B, pop- something up tempo… but I do like hard rock occasionally for some heavy lifting and surprisingly Christian music and blues for cardio sessions- it’s relaxing and makes the time go by quickly!
Q:You're also a law student. Give me some CPL! What about law attracts you?
A:Yes, concurrent with a full-time job, and this is my final semester! Talk about a balancing act- it can be done!! I’ve been of the belief that if you don’t know your rights, you don’t have any. I love learning and the law, politics, and the legal process fascinates me. People deal with the law everyday and we don’t think about it until someone needs an attorney. I don’t really have a desire to practice; however, it supplements my government relations and compliance background. I currently focus on contracts, and it is amazing to me how little details, (even a lack of a comma), can change the meaning of a contract! Language is crucial in deals.
Q:Friday night and Jenny is typically ....?
A:Boring. Haha. I’ve started back with posing practices after work on Fridays. Then afterwards, it’s either a date night with the hubby, a relax night catching up on shows, or a night of studying and working. I generally don’t stay up late because I now meet my girl Kris at 5:30am for a killer leg workout! Although this Friday will be out of the ordinary- I’ll be attending Christ Chapel’s (Fort Worth, TX) film festival featuring short videos on Missions from last summer! One of the videos is from our young couples group’s mission trip to Recife, Brazil! That’s an event I’ll stay up late for.
Q:Can you give us your Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, blog and website handles?
