A:I was actually born in a small town in Northern California, Woodland and grew up in Davis.
Q:How did you become a competitive figure skater?
A:Well my mom gave me lessons for my 9th birthday and I fell in love with the sport! I competed nationally through high school and it pretty much consumed my life. I coached in college and then an injury made me quit for good.
Q:What's the trick to skating fast? (I need to get faster lol)
A:You have to push off the inside rocker (middle of blade). Many make the mistake of trying to push off the toe pick and fall.
Q:How did the transition to NPC competition occur?
A:I have always been an athlete and a gym rat/trainer for the past few years but that part of my life was always considered a hobby until recently. I used fitness modeling as an excuse to stay in shape while my job was so stressful.
I actually moved here to run my event planning company however after my biggest contract (managing the international red bull motocross event) I realized my heart wasn't in it anymore. I decided it was time to go head first into fitness and not just stay on the outskirts of the industry. I have always been afraid of competing and thought my health issues wouldn't allow it but figured the only way to prove to myself I could overcome anything was to step on stage. I am not going to say it was easy but I'm so glad I took that leap! I transformed my body in ways I never thought possible and now feel like I know so much more about diet and training.
Q:How do you control your nerves on stage?
A:I grew up on stage as a dancer and figure skater. I was shaking until I literally stepped on stage but it actually felt natural and fun once I was actually out there in front of judges.
Q:Are you going after the pro card?
A:I haven't 100% decided if I want to go pro. I'm starting back down the competition prep path next month and decide what to aim for with my coach Ryan Bentson.
Q:Can you describe your pre contest diet?
A:I eat on a 4 day carb cycle. My diet changes each week leading up with high and low carb days and plenty of leafy greens and lean protein.
Q:What does your routine look like off season?
A:To be honest it's pretty similar except I can indulge in a few more foods. I don't believe in letting yourself go during "off season" You should always be a few days away from bring photo ready.
Q:I see you’re an entrepreneur. Describe the Events opportunity you see...
A:Well I started my own event company in SD. I have been fortunate over the past few years to plan and help with some large and notable events (Grammys, Red Bull International X Fighters, Playboy Mansion, Red Carpet fundraiser for Eva Longoria’s charity and A Lifetime Achievement Award Banquet for David Wilstein), however my heart is not in it anymore. It is hard to mix the worlds of entertainment and health and fitness. I still use my marketing background to help companies with branding, social media and competitor research but those have now become my secondary.
Q:Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
A:I hope to be saturating the fitness industry through coaching, public speaking and talent side while starting a family and establishing a home front.
Q:Can you give us your Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, blog and/or website handles?
