A:Yes, born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. Very few natives these days… I love my hometown!
Q:Must see place to visit in Arizona?
A:I would say the Grand Canyon, but I am ashamed to say that I have never been. I definitely enjoy getting away to my parents’ home in Prescott, Arizona. Prescott is beautiful with mountains and cute shops in town; also a 20 degree drop from the HOT Valley of the Sun.
Q:How did your journey to the NPC begin?
A:I began purchasing Oxygen Magazine in 2006, and at the time I was attending college and becoming a Certified Personal Trainer, so anything fitness caught my attention. I then saw the beautiful Felicia Romero, featured in an article, and it spoke about her being located in Mesa, Arizona. I googled her gym, AZ Pro Physiques, and spoke with Damian Segovia, who is now my competition coach, and went from there. It took me 2 years to mentally and physically become dedicated to preparing for a show.
Q:Compare your off season and pre contest diet...
A:Well, my first show was bikini this past November, so I was on a very strict meal plan and cardio regime. I am now preparing for my figure debut and my meals are large. I consume more carbs now than I did when I ran competitively in college. My issue is sticking to clean eating on the off-season- I am a huge In-N-Out burger fan!!!!! My coach hates it!
Q:Why did you become a personal trainer?
A:I enrolled in the personally training program at my college while I was pursuing my associates degree. I honestly wanted to have a fun job while in college; I was getting tired of working at bars and restaurants…the long hours and late nights distracted me.
Q:How do you motivate your clients?
A:I really talk to my clients about their goals. We look at periods in their lives when they enjoyed their physique, whether it was prior to having children, or getting into the hustle and bustle of life and work, and we focus on mentally becoming positive again. Having a goal isn’t enough… you have to truly want it and think of attaining it daily. Something I struggle with myself is staying motivated and focused. It’s human nature, but when you have a goal I am going to be there to push you day in and day out, just like my coach does for me. I can relate to my clients and they appreciate that.
Q:Any funny pt stories?
A:I have pretty embarrassing stories about myself for sure. I am the QUEEN complainer when its leg days. I dislike lifting legs with a passion, and I am ashamed to say it, but it’s true!!! So when I see my coach, he literally yells at me to finish my reps, and watches me so I don’t cheat on my form. I mentally have to think good thoughts when I have leg day or else I am nervous and anxious all day.
Q:What is Team AFD?
A:Team AFD is who I represent as a competitor, my contest prep team. Team AFD trains national and pro level competitors all over the nation. I wouldn’t train with anyone else.
Q:What are your future fitness career plans?
A:Future plans…. I am going to win my Pro Card! I want to make a name for myself as a competitor, walk the stage with Candice Lewis, Nicole Wilkins and Erin Stern. I would love to become a public figure like Jamie Eason, Tosca Reno and Felicia Romero. Write for amazing magazines like Oxygen, Fitness RX, etc. And, to also grow my business and be a well-known trainer for all clientele, from completion girls to senior health.
