A:Simi Valley, CA is where I grew up. I moved to a small town (Santa Paula, Ca) about 45 minutes north of there when I met my husband. I've been here ever since and it's been about 8 years now.
Q:Why did you begin training?
A:My husband (who is a fire fighter) really got me into training consistently. I had always gone to the gym and was active (i.e. danced for 15 years), but he taught me how to really "work out", aka lift! I started going to the gym where I adapted a routine, met people who were just as passionate about weight training and fell in love with the lifestyle.
Q:Why did you choose to compete in the NPC?
A:The NPC sort of fell in my lap. I met a trainer at my gym who had competed before through the NPC and asked if I was interested in doing a competition. As soon as I had done my first competition through the NPC, I was hooked! I compete through Jon Lindsey's shows. His shows to me are the best in the industry; he really believes in the sport and the athletes.
Q:Describe being on stage...
A:Being on stage is an amazing feeling- a cross between thrilling and nerve wracking. It's your one shot to show off your physique that you worked so hard for, ensuring your poses are accentuating your muscles and proportions for your body type. It's really cool to be able show off to the judges and the audience. Everything happens so fast and as soon as I get off stage, I wish I was back on again!
Q:Tell us about your own pre contest workout routine and diet...
A:I have amazing coaches to keep track of my progress and make changes if needed. For the most part, my pre-contest routine consisted of heavy lifting 6 days a week; which included plyometric and High Intensity Interval Training. I ate 6-7 meals a day.
Most of my meals consisted of 3-4 oz of protein, good fats, carbohydrates before and after my work outs, vegetables and I drank a gallon of water a day. Again, both the workouts and routines were fine tuned based on how my body was responding week after week. Also, the best thing I could do for my body was REST! I ensured I was getting ample sleep in order to recover properly for the next work out. Super important!
Q:Are you attempting to get your pro card?
A:Yes. However, I really want to listen to my coaches and go through the appropriate process in order to earn my pro card. I still have some work to do (i.e. building more muscle and getting a few shows under my belt), but I'll work for it! I'm completely driven and absolutely love the sport!
Q:If you're not in the gym, what can we find you doing?
A:I am a mom of a 5 year old daughter named Aubrey and a wife to my husband Jesse. You will find me taking my daughter to school, going to birthday parties, doing crafts, going to the movies, taking family vacations..normal family stuff. It's all about balance in life!
Q:Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
A:I definitely see myself competing at the Pro level and being more involved in the fitness industry. I'd love to create work out videos for moms and have some involvement with motivating children to adopting a fit lifestyle. I will tell you, my daughter does realize how much mommy and daddy go to the gym and has taken on to our lifestyle (i.e. eating habits and physical education). I caught her her on my spin bike the other day with ankle weights attached to her wrists, followed by her doing push ups in the garage. So, I do feel that I can make a difference by putting programs together for moms and kids.
Q:Can you give us all of your social media handles?
