A:I am from Greensburg, Pennsylvania, which is about 45 minutes east of Pittsburgh. I have lived here my whole life.
Q:Why did you begin bodybuilding?
A:I began my bodybuilding journey about 4 years ago. I have noticed that a lot of people with dwarfism let their bodies go when it comes to weight. With dwarfism it is very easy for someone to become overweight and I did not want this to happen to me. I wanted to be that inspiration for others with dwarfism and average size people, too.
I have decided that I would like to be an image for people with dwarfism to show them that our size doesn’t need to limit our dreams. My mentality is, “If you have a dream you need to go after it and never give up on it. Just believe and never let anyone tell you that you can’t do something.” I love to see my body change and to help others. I did not want to be that person with dwarfism who is overweight and not liking their life. I wanted to be that person with dwarfism who stood out, who was fit, muscular, and just an inspiration for others. I hope to be the kind of inspiration that someone would say to me, “because of you, I never gave up.”
Q:Awesome. When did you know that you could compete in the NPC?
Describe being on stage…
A:I started competing last year at the Pittsburgh in 2013 then I went on to compete at the Mid Atlantic which was 2 weeks after the Pittsburgh show. I went to my first body building show 4 years ago at the Arnold Classic. When I saw Jay Cutler for the first time I was inspired to start training hard and being that inspiration for others. To this day I consider Jay Cutler, one of the biggest names in the body building industry, a friend. He says now that I am that inspiration for others to never give up. I will continue to compete and just become better and better and beat the old me every time. That is always my goal. When you compete, it cannot always be about the placing, it has to be to beat the old you.
Being on that stage for me is about showing everyone that I will never give up and be the best I can be. I like to show everyone how determined and excited I am to see my body change. I have the hopes of someone looking at me and saying because of you I will never give up. I hope to inspire many.
Q:Tell us about your pre contest diet and workout routine..
Favorite cheat meal?
A:When I am training for a show we do my diet on a weekly basis. The reason I say we is because I have Tad Inoue (Tad The Diet Coach) do my diet. He is in the drivers seat most of the time and I just listen to what I have to do. Tad is a brother to me and he has my best interests in mind at all times. For my morning when I am in prep I will wake up and do fasted cardio with nothing in my stomach. This helps boost my metabolism and burn the fat we need to burn. When I am done with that I will only be aloud to eat about half a cup of oats with about a cup of egg whites. I like to use the chocolate flavor of Muscle Egg. With both of those I use MCT oil. My meals usually consist of some type of meat which usually are chicken, beef, or tilapia, greens, and some type of carb being a baked potato, sweet potato, or rice. When it gets closer to the show we cut those out completely. This is to help me not gain unwanted water and fat. I believe there is never an off season when you are a true competitor. When I am not getting ready for a show my diet changes and I get my cheat meals back which are once a week on either Saturday or Sunday. These meals last for about 45 minutes. This meal takes place of my meal 6 and 7. If I eat my cheat meal at 6 or 7 at night I will not be eating anything for the rest of the night. When I have my cheat meals I like to have pasta, boneless wings, and tacos. It varies from place to place to where I eat my cheat meals. I like to go to Apple Bees, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chipotle, or 5 Guys Burgers and Fries.
Q:I see the tag #minimutant. Let's talk Marvel, who is your favorite character? What's next for you?
A:My favorite character is the Hulk because when I train I just like to get big but keep my proper physique that is needed for when competing.
What is next for me? That is a great question. There are many competitors that do not know what they are going to do after every show. After the North Americans I have decided to take off until the Pittsburgh next May, and then hopefully do another pro qualifier whether being the Team Universe or the North Americans again. I have started my off season already. When I am in my off season I still have to stick to a diet plan and maintain on it. If I were to completely get off of my diet, that would just mean I had to do more work when I was in prep for the Pittsburgh and the last thing I want to do is unneeded work.
