A:I was born in Michigan, but I have lived in Texas most of my life. I consider myself 100% Texan and proud of it. :) I love being a southern girl where most of the year is warm bikini and beach weather! <3
Q:When did you begin modeling?
A:It all started over a year ago, I had the honor of doing my first photo shoot with an amazing photographer, Wendi Satio. It was a dream/goal of mine to shoot with her. I decided to make my dreams my reality and make it happen. I am so glad I did... It was such a positive lifetime experience and I learned so much about myself. It was a confidence booster and made me realize anything was possible if you want it bad enough. Modeling is a good way to keep myself motivated in my healthy fit lifestyle. I always want to look and feel my best especially when showing up for a photo shoot. I love meeting new photographers and developing relationships with them and creating great images. Don't sit around and wait for amazing things to happen... set goals and start achieving them. Life is short and precious. Always live it to the fullest with no regrets. Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone..that is where the magic happens! :)
Q:Any funny photo shoot stories?
A:One of my funnest shoots was with LHGFX Photography! The day was full of laughter and fun all day long! The guys got to experience crazy Houston, Texas weather. It started out pouring down rain. If you have ever been to Houston, you know that we have 100% humidity most of the year... especially after rain. Luckily it quit raining, but the humidity was insane... I shouldn't have even bothered having my hair fixed cause my naturally curly hair did its own thing. Thank goodness it still ended up looking good for the pics. I was shocked at how well the makeup stayed on because it was a hot and steamy photo shoot. The guys were getting attacked by fire ants trying to get the shots. :) It was still a great shoot and the pics came out amazing despite crazy mother nature!! Cannot wait to do it again LHGFX...maybe in Miami next time! :)
Q:How do you remain fit for your shoots?
A:I live a healthy fit lifestyle year round. So I am usually about 2-4 weeks out from being photoshoot ready. I start making modifications with my workouts and nutrition prior to a shoot if needed. It depends on the shape of my body and the goal of the shoot. I might increase the length and/or intensity of my cardio. I make minor nutrition changes if needed. I will eliminate my weekly refuel or "cheat" meal. I cut out all sugar too! The week leading up to the shoot, I eliminate sodium. I only cook with Mrs. Dash, (no salt spices), and eliminate condiments. I limit my water intake after 8pm the night before the shoot until the shoot is over... then go back to my normal water consumption of a gallon immediately after. I always want to look and feel my best for every photo shoot! It is all about being confident and feeling good in your own skin!
Q:What type of diet are you on?
A:Living a healthy fit lifestyle requires dedication, willpower, and preparation. I find it best to set aside some time twice a week and just cook up plenty of healthy clean food. We are all busy and preparation is key to being successful at living a healthy fit lifestyle. Living a healthy fit lifestyle is at least 80% about the nutrition 10% exercise, and 10% genetics. You can hit the gym all day long, but if you aren't eating the proper foods...you will not get the results you want. Clean eating is a necessity!
Clean eating is a diet program based on the idea that the best thing to eat is whole foods. Foods that are as close to their natural state as possible. This means eating fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins instead of pre-packaged, processed foods or fast food. It can all seem overwhelming at first, but just start changing a few things at a time working towards a healthier fit lifestyle.
My nutrition changes depending on my goals. Whether I am trying to gain muscle, lose body fat, or prep for a photoshoot or competition. I have trainer that helps me with my goals and creates workouts and meals plans for me and specifically for my body.
Here are the basics on clean eating... I eat 6 balanced meals a day consisting of a lean protein, (egg whites, turkey, chicken, fish, vegetable, mostly green, leafy, and asparagus) and a complex carbohydrate, (oatmeal, quinoa, sweet potato), and limited healthy fats, (raw almonds, cashews, flax seed, olive oil). Around every 2-3 hours it keeps your blood sugar stable and helps to avoid overeating. I prepare my food twice a week. I set aside some time and cook food for 4-5 days at a time.I typically allow myself one refuel or "cheat" meal a week. It keeps my cravings controlled, (keeps me sane), and it shocks your body and increases your metabolism. People have different opinions on cheats. It all depends on your personal goals and if you can handle a meal without spiraling out of control. It works for me and my body and mind! :) Drink plenty of water.. I drink a gallon a day, avoid sugar, and get plenty of sleep (not always good about this). Sleep is so important for muscle repair and growth. Remember if you have a bad day, because it happens we are all human, just don't let it get you down. Tomorrow is a new day and you can start fresh.
Q:Great advice! How are you planning to transition into the fitness industry?
A: 2012 was all about achieving my impossible and 2013 will continue! I am constantly taking my fitness to the next level and love that I inspire and motivate others while doing it!
I am a girl making her dreams a reality. I have found a passion for fitness in my life. Nothing like inspiring and motivating others while doing what I love. I am thankful for the support from my friends and family. It is a must to surround yourself with people that are positive and encouraging of your choice to live a healthy lifestyle. It takes motivation, dedication and willpower everyday to get fit and stay fit. I love the daily mental and physical challenges that are involved.
In 2012 I was introduced to a different side of fitness. I was encouraged to take my fitness to the next level and achieve my impossible. I set some goals and achieved them and it was a great feeling of accomplishment. I encourage people to set goals and reach for them. The sky's the limit and anyone can do it! You must believe in yourself and put in the effort and it can and will happen!
It started in January, I made a goal to compete in my first bikini fitness competition. In May, my goal was achieved. I walked the stage for the very first time. I loved everything about it from start to finish. It was the motivation I needed to take my fitness to the next level. I learned the true meaning of clean eating and how it fuels the body and what works best for my body. It was such a great experience I decided to compete again in November. I know competing is not for everyone, but I love it! It is important to know that is is not all about the trophy either. Of course we all want to win, but it is important to know that there is so much more to get out of the entire journey. The knowledge, confidence, friendships, and of course an amazing figure to name a few. It was such an awesome and positive experience from start to finish! I learned so much about nutrition, exercise, and myself. I’m looking forward to the next one! Remember, no one said it is going to be easy, but it will be worth it! :) Looking forward to 2013.
Q:Who has been your greatest inspiration?
A:There are a lot of fitness ladies out there that motivate and inspire me everyday. They make me want to push myself and be the best me possible. So, this is tough to name just one. I am going to mention Fitness Model Kelsey because she inspired me on a bit more of a personal level to push myself and achieve my impossible. She has an amazing transformation story and and continues to impress me daily with her accomplishments. She is so real and down to earth! She is truly in it to help and inspire others. I love that about her! I highly recommend you look her up and follow her.
