A:I was born in California and raised in Florida. However, I am now back in Cali at least for now and I travel frequently for work! :)
When people ask this question though I commonly ask if they mean where I'm located or my ethnicity because my ethnicity is always a topic of debate amongst fans. So to cover that as well I am mostly American Indian with some Irish and Spanish (from Spain). Guess a mutt more or less. Ha!
Q:Why did you become involved in health and fitness?
A:I was an athlete my entire life and enjoy the active lifestyle. I hate going more than a day or two without going to the gym, I just feel lazy! Also, personally I like the look of a woman's body with a little muscle and healthier image, rather then just stick skinny. Additionally, I realized the avenue I could take with competing and doing fitness modeling to tie my two passions together and I've never looked back. However, I compete in bikini although I stay ever lean and cut my proportions are still small enough that I can still do traditional modeling as well.
Q:How do you stay motivated day in and day out at the gym?
A:Honestly the number one thing keeping me motivated is first the love of what I do but also all those that look up to me. I know that someone has to "make it" so why not me? I want to show everyone that doubted me that anything is possible if you work hard enough and believe in yourself! Plus I think young women need more positive role models that they can look up to, who aren't afraid to be real and show flaws. I hope I can play at least a small role in a handful of people's lives in a positive manner and to me that's bigger than an level of popularity!
Q:Tell us about your first time on the NPC stage...
A:My first time on the NPC stage was amazing!! It was such a rush and I enjoyed the competitive nature of it. I was no stranger to the stage do to my previous years of modeling so that was a great help. It's funny because in person I'm pretty laid back and even quiet at times, but on stage I light up. I know it's go time and I'm there for a "job". I want all eyes on me and I walk out there with the mindset that no one is going to beat me. Stage presence is everything!! However, off stage I remain very humble and actually acted as the "mother hen" to the other girls in my division who had a harder time dealing with the pressure. I want everyone to enjoy the experience and if a couple kind words can help them. I’llbe the first to support and cheer them on.
Q:What's your pre contest diet and workout routine like?
A:Not too much changes from pre-contest to off season honestly. The reason for this is because unlike many competitor I don't look all too different on the day to day as compared to my body on stage or in a shoot. If I had to yoyo a diet or heavily deplete my body to achieve a look I don't think I would do it. I will say that off season my levels of cardio decrease some and I'm not as strict on my diet, I might eat a treat from to time. I still work out 3-5 times a week depending on my schedule and stick to lean meats, veggies, complex carbs, and some fruits. Try to stay away from processed foods as much as I can.
My training is intense!! I may not lift the heaviest weights in the gym but my muscle endurance is very high!! Lol
I try to work in cardio of some sort close to everyday, not only does it help me stay lean but it's good for your heart and overall general health. So yes I train for a "look" but my health is always number one! Another reason I've never drank, smoked, or done any sort of drug in my entire life.
I like to break my muscle groups down so I might train legs one day. Right now I'm focusing on exercises primarily targeting my glutes and hamstrings to balance out the fact that my quads are very developed from my years of basketball and volleyball. The next day I’ll probably train shoulders and back. Shoulders are some of my favorite because here is a secret ladies broad shoulders give the illusion of a narrower waist. Then I train my biceps and triceps the next day, mixing in light core from time to time. Can't do too much core because my abs actually get too "hard" for my bikini division.
Q:How did you get into modeling?
A:How I got to my current success level has been far from easy. I've had many obstacles and barriers along the way. Some times I thought I'd never get to where I currently am do to so many things in life setting me back! When you have a passion for something no matter what you can't walk away. I started in mainstream modeling around the age of 17 when I got discovered and booked my first shoot sitting in the stands of a high school football game. From there it just steamrolled and I learned the business quick. You have to have thick skin and know that it is impossible to please everyone. Most importantly though to being successful is remain humble, networking and be gracious to those that support you!!
