A:I was born and raised in Vancouver and still live close to where I grew up.
Q:Describe the thought process when you first knew you wanted to become an IFBB Pro competitor..
A:I had competed in a couple figure shows, and then when the bikini division first started many people suggested I switch to this new class. The Pro card happened very quickly, because it was the first year for it and I competed in the first show, where I won my class and overall to win a pro card. I became the first IFBB pro in Canada.
Q:What does a typical week long workout routine look like for you?
A:With me being a personal trainer and running my own business ( www.BodyBybrandt.com) I rarely have a set schedule for my training during the week. I have to fit in my own training around my clients. Here’s what a typical week might look like if none of my clients changed their sessions:
Monday- AM- Interval Cardio-30 mins PM-Legs- Pylo’s
Tuesday- AM-Cardio- Steady state- 1 hour Pm--H.I.I.T workout focus on shoulders
Wednesday- AM-Cardio- Intervals PM-Tight + Tiny workout
Thursday-Am-Cardio only Day
Friday-AM-Tight N Tiny conditioning workout PM-Legs-heavy
Sat-AM-Jog- Pm-tight N tiny lower body workout
Sun-optional day (depending how I feel, either day off or some active recovery)
Q:What is your favorite body part to train and why?
A:Favorite bodypart to train are my shoulders. I always get a great pump with them and people always seem to comment about them after I’ve trained them.
Q:I see you're a personal trainer. Which is harder, getting yourself contest ready or training others?
A:As a personal trainer, I definitely find it harder to get myself contest ready. Like I mentioned earlier it’s always a challenge fitting in 2 x day training when you have lots of clients. Thankfully I have an amazing coach (Kim Oddo), who helps me makes it fit.
Q:Tell us about Kore Fit Living...
A:KORE Fit Living is the name of my husband’s supplement store. This is mostly run by him, but I do help out from time to time with store events and some product demos. Kore Fit Living is a franchise, which like us promotes a healthy living and active lifestyle. Its a lot more than your average sports supplement store. As we have a vegan/vegetarian section, active clothing line, lots of accessories like my new sponsor Fit mark bags. (www.Fitmarkbags.com )
Q:Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A:10 yr plan? That’s a long time, I have more of a 5 year plan right now and that is to follow some of my role models like Jamie Eason and Ava Cowan and continue to inspire other women to live a healthy and active lifestyle with proper nutrition, weight training and supplementation. Also to stay grounded, humble and classy.
Q:What advice would you give to a young female starting out in your industry?
A:My advice to other women: Follow your heart and follow your passion! If you’re really passionate about being a fitness model, surround yourself with positive people that also support you. Work hard, stay as close to photo shoot/ competition shape as you can, as opportunities can come up in this industry very quickly with magazines all being on deadlines. Talk to others in the Industry about what photographers you should work with and which ones you should avoid! Most Importantly brand yourself, and conduct yourself at all times in the industry with professionalism and class. Also a little gratitude and appreciation goes a long ways when you get opportunities to shoot with top photographers and magazines.
