A:Originally I was born in south NJ. When I was around five, my family moved to Miami, so I grew up in Florida.
Q:When did you get into fitness?
A:I actually only got into fitness four or five months ago. I lived a very unhealthy lifestyle, striving to stay thin, so I wanted to gain control of my life and get into the best shape possible the healthy way.
Q:Why did you want to compete?
A:I decided to start competing because I started going to shows and everyone competing was so empowering- they all had the same love for nutrition and looking the best they could, they showed me if your heads in the game, your body will follow. It is possible to look exactly how you wanna look, you just have to put the work in and believe in yourself. I knew from that point on I wanted to be standing on a stage.
Q:What is your diet like?
A:My diet usually consists of 6-7 small meals a day, a protein source, a very small amount of carbs, and a vegetable. Life can be hectic so I bring all my meals with me for the day, this way I have no reason to fall off track. I don't always have a lot of time to prepare my meals, so I have all my meals prepped by @Metabolabs (on Instagram, Metabolabs@gmail.com). It's great and super easy, they shop, prepare and cook all the food on my meal plan and sometimes even deliver it! I take a lot of vitamins as well, as a woman it’s so crucial to make sure you’re getting all the vitamins and nutrients when working out so vigorously. One of my meals will also consist of a scoop of whey protein, I usually mix it with water or low fat almond milk, and I use "ETB" Eat the Bear. It's my absolute favorite protein, it actually tastes like dessert and you feel like you’re cheating on your diet, but the good news is, you’re not!! I drink a gallon of water a day, it's so important to stay hydrated so you will often see my carrying around a jug of water. Every weekend I will have a cheat meal, it's really good to shock your body when you’re eating so clean all week. A cheat meal will jumpstart your metabolism, not to mention make it much easier to stay on track when you treat yourself to something you enjoy!
Q:Describe your workout routine…
A:My workouts are pretty intense. I usually do two sessions of cardio a day, one in the morning when I first wake up on an empty stomach, the other session later in the day. I lift a different muscle group every day and I do abs every other day. I really enjoy outdoor exercise, I love running outside, (I find it to be very therapeutic and it's a lot easier to get cardio done this way). I will often run bridges, or run on the beach… it makes it much more enjoyable when you change up the scenery. I try to listen to my body for the most part, and not over work myself. Your body will always tell you what's too much, or when you can keep going. Working out is a mental game, if you can conquer your mind, your body will follow.
Q:What other tips do you have for up and coming competitors?
A:The number one word of advice I give to people looking to join the competition world is you are your only competition. I’ve learned the only person I am aiming to beat is myself, anytime I step on a stage, I aim to beat the girl I was, the last time I was on stage. As I said before, this whole sport is a huge mental game and you will drive yourself mad if you let it rule your life. Most importantly you have to just have fun with it, it's a great sport and organization to be apart of, as long as you’re enjoying the ride.
Q:Great advice. What other hats do you wear?
A:Besides being an NPC competitor, I am a freelance makeup artist. I was also in Miss Nevada USA 2013, I am an ETB Promo model, and have been working with photographers pursuing my career in modeling.
Q:What's next for you and your career?
A:In the near future I'm really hoping I can take my career in modeling to the next level, I see positive things to come. In the past I worked for MAC Cosmetics in West Hollywood, CA, I am really passionate about the brand, and would love to go back to the company in the near future. I will most likely relocate back to California, it's really a beautiful place to live and the opportunities for me there, are endless. I am also working on opening a business, the plans for that are coming along and soon they will be put into action. As far as working out, nutrition, and competing, well that's a lifestyle, so I'm just going to keep on living! :)
