A:I was born in Tulsa, Ok, but raised all over the world. My dad was in the Army and we moved every 2-4 years until high school.
Q:How did you get into competing?
A:A friend of mine who did figure shows said I'd be great at it and literally talked me into it and lead me through my first show. She introduced me to the same coach I've been working with since then, (2009). I've been competing ever since.
Q:You also model. How did this begin?
A:I've wanted to model and act my whole life. Theatre was part of my childhood consistently, but I never was 'allowed' to pursue modeling (at least, it wasn't encouraged), and then I thought I was too short (I'm 5'7). So when I found out about fitness and commercial modeling, I was all for it, but still didn't want to pursue it on my own (I was convinced that that would be arrogant of me). A friend and successful fitness/runway model sent my photos in from a boating/camping trip the summer of 2007 without me knowing. I got a contract in my inbox and signed immediately! I booked my first job the same week and took that as a green-light and have pursued it since.
Q:Where have you been featured?
A:I do mainly mainstream sports modeling. I have worked for the UFC, Adidas, UnderArmour, Reebok, Sports Authority, and Dicks Sporting Goods; but I have also had spreads in Oxygen, Muscle and Fitness Hers, and SHAPE magazine to name a few.
Q:Any funny modeling stories?
A:Mostly, I'm just a goof on set. I want to make the crew laugh and have a good day at work. I want them to enjoy and remember working with me. I've done things like arm wrestle the photographer, wear my shorts with the waistband as high as I can, talk in a character voice, etc... Good times to be had, always! :)
Q:How did you get into acting?
A:Again, I grew up in church and children's community theatre and choir. Musical theatre was my forte and I have always loved performing. Acting has always come naturally to me for some reason. I even 'wrote' and put on plays with my sisters for my family on multiple occasions. After signing with my sports agency, I looked into local theatrical and commercial agencies. I found and signed with one and booked national commercials through them. I'm currently signed with a commercial agent here in LA but I really would love to have more film acting opportunities. I'll be pursuing that more seriously in the next few months after my national competition in July. I'm also currently working on a reality television show called 'Muscle Beach: The Series" which is basically "Real World or The Hills meets the fitness/entertainment industry....follow the facebook and twitter pages and stay tuned! :)
Q:What do you want to accomplish in the acting industry?
A:I'd love to be cast as a super heroine or action lead someday, but I could also see myself doing a Rom-com. I can't deny my silly dramatic side. Dramas could be fun but I don't take myself very seriously, so it may be more of a challenge to do a drama, but then again, I do love a good challenge. I love acting. I can only hope to be award winning, but my goals in acting are to give a stellar performance that's fun, not forced, and to build myself as a personality that people can look up to as a positive role-model.
Q:Who is your biggest inspiration?
A:Whoa. Heavy question. For acting? I love Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, Diane Keaton, and Julianne Moore. Ah, there are so many! For fitness? I just want to be better than I was yesterday and inspire people to do the same. I don't have a specific name to mention, but I have always admired Jamie Eason for her bravery in her convictions and standing up for her beliefs, while admitting she has made decisions in her past she's not proud of. I love her for that. I hope people can love me for similar reasons like they do her, and know that it's God that deserves the glory at the end of the day, not any person or 'celebrity.'
Great interview questions. Thank you!
