A: I was born in Havana Cuba and lived there till I was 5 yrs old. In Febuary of 1980 my parents decided to escape the country and we traveled from Cuba to Costa Rica, to the Bahamas to Miami, to New Jersey. It took us 3 months to finally step foot in American land. I don't remember much about Cuba since I was a little girl. I just knew that I had an amazing family that took the risk to bring us over so my brother and I could have opportunities to fulfill our dreams, (whatever they may be).
Q:Most know Vida the cover and swimsuit model. When did you realize you wanted to transition to fitness model and ultimately IFBB competitor?
A:Well what most don't know is that I was competing back in 2000. I only did one show, it was for figure when it first started. I placed top 5 but when I realized what figure was I didn't want to put my body through that, so I kept working and in 2002 I became a model. Everything just kept coming for me in that industry, so I kept working out till 2007. Then last April 2011 I found out about bikini and I wanted to compete just to see if I could do it since I never really gave it a try back in 2000, and I fell in love with the sport. I know I can't hide behind an airbrushed pic and being on stage, under those lights having people judge you, was the best way to force me to get back in shape. First it was just to get in shape, then I found out about the pro card and I wanted that! Almost a year later I finally got it and I have not been able to wipe the smile of my face. It’s funny-- I have achieved many things in the last 10 years of my career and this was one of my proudest moments.. and I am so thankful for it. :)
Q:How did it feel finally getting that pro card?
A:It felt amazing ...still on cloud 9... one of my proudest moment in my life.
Q:What does your typical week long routine look like?
A:I mix so many things around because I get bored doing the same type of workouts. I wake up at 6 am and prepare my meals for the day. After breakfast I hit the gym then run around getting other things done. It’s challenging sometimes but I love every minute of it.
Q:Describe and compare your off season diet to your pre contest diet...
A:It’s basically the same off season and on season, of course a little more strict 4 weeks before a show. But I usually eat pretty clean most of the time. I don't usually get cravings and if I do I just have it- guess you can do that when you’re strict year round. It just becomes a bit challenging for me especially when I have to travel for work.
Q:We have talked about the Olympias. Is this your ultimate goal,or is there more?
A:I would love to compete this year in the Olympia. I know it’s only a few months away but that is my next goal as far as competing is concerned.
Q:I'm a huge Giants fan being born and raised in New York. One of my favorite tight ends of all time is Jeremy Shockey. You know where I'm going with this, describe the relationship you had with him...
A:I never had a relationship with him. I did a photoshoot with him and a bunch of us went to the event and they took picture of us coming in and next thing you know we were dating, (according to the media). The truth is I never dated him, we were just friends...
Q:Leads me to my next question. Describe your ideal man?
A:My ideal man is strong, passionate, driven, determined, focused, positive, loyal, honest, trustworthy, compassionate, giving, open minded, evolved, champion ..omg, I could keep going...guess thats why I'm single... haven’t met him yet lol... or maybe I may have... :)
Q:What's the high point of your career journey? The low point?
A:Wow, we have up and downs..I don't see anything high or low.. because when its low it makes you appreciate the highs. Life is a roller coaster... we have to enjoy every moment and keep reaching for the stars and never to quit. Every moment of my career is a blessing and I'm doing everything I always wanted to do. I grew up very poor so I appreciate everything so much...
Q:There's a girl about to do her first photo shoot because you inspired her. What advice would you give her?
A:Just be yourself and let your true self shine through...
Q:Where do you want to see yourself and your career in 10 years?
A:The sky is the limit... I will always continue to keep setting goals for myself. I want to keep doing things I'm proud of and that will make me happy. Not sure what the future holds for me but I'm open to this amazing journey... I have a lot drive and I will never stop...
