A:No, I'm originally from South Africa but absolutely love the Colorado experience! I wake up every morning in this truly magical place.
Q:Best place to eat in Denver?
A:Del Friscos, the food is friggin epic! I love their 8oz tenderloin.
Q:How did your fitness career begin?
A:It's more of a calling, I always knew I would do it. I have an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science and a Masters in Sports Medicine, I am an M.A.T specialist working to obtain my Mastery level certification. First training job was when I was 18, I rode to clients houses with weights in a backpack and trained them! BOOM!!
Q:Lol. How did you become the Denver Nuggets strength coach?
A:Right place at the right time. I knew this is what I wanted and I got it, having degrees, certifications and experience absolutely helped. Lesson to self- stay prepared!!!
Q:Can you give us some techniques to increase upper and lower body strength?
A:Love splitting my workouts into a push day, pull day and leg day. Love adjusting repetition schemes, rest periods and intensities- but I think the best advice I can give you TODAY (may change tomorrow) is train specifically for what you are trying to achieve. I think we over complicate things. Eat brilliantly 6 times per day, drink tons of water and in my opinion, a strong body is a healthy body. Finally, if you don't feel good you are doing something wrong. That is not an excuse not to crush it, just allow for adequate recovery.
Q:How did you become an Under Armour's member on their Performance Training Council?
A:Under Armour is a forward thinking, evolved company looking to create the absolute best gear. They place a huge amount of emphasis on research and development, and I am humbled that they felt I had enough expertise to offer them advice on the products- as it pertains to both my athletes and fellow trainers. The board consists of experts in the field who I truly admire, and I think Under Armour does an incredible job of getting pertinent information from the ground level.
Q:What is a M.A.T specialist?
A:It allows me to systematically evaluate the body to determine and treat any imbalances, an incredible tool that helps me help my athletes.
Q:Can you give us all of your social media handles?
A: Twitter is @SteveHess1
